Food + Beverage

Food + Beverage reporting

Since Nov. 2007, I’ve reported on the food and beverage scene covering everything from restaurant reviews and recipes to controversial topics and investigative anthropological perspectives.

Between 2011 and 2013, I took on editing roles assigning and planning food and beverage sections for Inland Empire Weekly’s print and online platforms.

In January 2013, I took over a weekly drink column, Lift Your Spirits, for The Desert Sun, the Gannett Co.-owned newspaper of record for Palm Springs, Calif. and neighboring cities.

Originally, the column featured a single cocktail recipe with brief description paragraph. I re-branded the column, adding first-person commentary and developed digital components including videos and a regular coinciding blog.

I developed brand recognition through networking with local businesses and drink professionals.

The column progressed into informal and formal gatherings, culminating in a two-part series focused on the distillation of whiskey and brewing of beers.

Through brand partnerships, the events drew in between 150 and 200 people per night bringing in roughly 10 times ROI.

Following my departure from the paper, I began producing stop motion videos featuring the making of craft cocktails for a freelance series for Paste Magazine and continued my food coverage on a freelance basis.
